Having goals, dreams, and aspirations make life fun and inspiring. Have you given much thought and attention to your dreams? At the beginning of the year, I heard a few people indicate that they don’t make resolutions because they know they won’t keep them. Any goal or dream is defined by you and can be as large or small as you wish. Any goals you have exist for your benefit, and if you routinely do not achieve your goals, it is possible that you are defining goals that are too far out of your immediate reach. In those cases, it might make sense to define smaller goals that build up to a larger goal. That way, small successes will encourage you and keep you motivated. For example, if your goal is to lose 50 pounds in 6 months and after 5 months you have lost only 10 pounds, it is easy to give up. If you are able to set smaller, more frequent goals such as losing 8 pounds per month, you are able to measure and see progress which increases the likelihood that you will continue. Don’t give up on your dreams or setting higher aspirations for yourself. With small successes you will build confidence to achieve greater things. To start, you need to define and set a goal no matter how small. Write down your goal for this year, and let’s get started. You’ve checked off the first step. You can do it!
